Blue skies and a light sea breeze in 80 degree weather greeted the 2023 Flying Piston Benefit Charity Breakfast attendees… lovely weather for our charity Builders Breakfast. People were happy, the food was tasty, and the art was hot.

The charity breakfast and silent auction are the centerpiece of the 2023 Flying Piston Benefit Charity Breakfast and Auction located at Teddy Morse’s Daytona Harley-Davidson® during Daytona Bike Week. The breakfast is an opportunity for attendees to network with industry leaders and custom motorcycle builders including NASCAR legend Rusty Wallace, Corey Ness of Arlen Ness, Christine LaPera, Bill Dodge of Bling Cycles, Ron Harris of Chop Docs, Doug Wothke, and Jason Lessig to name just a few.

This year,  the silent auction featured a range of custom motorcycle art, parts, accessories, and memorabilia. Proceeds got to All Kids Bike and Motorcycle Missions.

To spice things up we conducted a competition with the tumblers and skate decks. Twenty one artists participated in the Art On Deck by Gnarly Magazine competition and 8 artists in the Drink the Art presented by Big Frig competition.

Winners include:

  • Online Skate Deck competition presented by Gnarly Magazine: Artist Yamasha from Ukraine
  • In-person Art on Deck People’s Choice: Curt Green of Bare Bones Leather
  • In-person Drink the Art competition presented by Big Frig: Mike Richardson of Rebel Soul Studio

About the Breakfast

Enthusiasts had an opportunity to meet builders, artists and industry people. This  included NASCAR legend Rusty Wallace, Cory Ness of Arlen Ness, Christine LePera, Bill Dodge of Bling Cycles, Ron Harris of Chop Docs, Chris and Heather Callen of Cycle Source Magazine,  Doug Wothke, and Jason Lessig to name just a few.

This year’s breakfast featured outstanding food with Giuseppe’s Steel City Pizza in Post Orange providing the breakfast sandwiches and Donnie’s Donuts providing the vintage-style dunkers. We have to thank Ron Harris of Chop Docs for the hookup with Giuseppe.

Bear Gets His Board Donated

I can’t say Bear was happy with me after he lost his Scream Queens skate deck by Mari Geolfos of @aireffexcustompaint. Two minutes before the closing of the auction I held up the board that he was high bidder on. As I am waxing poetic about how cool this skate deck, I heard Bear in the background say… Son of a bitch! The board just went up $225.

Long story short, he lost the skate deck. He finds the guy that won it and says with a smile, “Did you steal my board?”

It turns out that the guy that won the board is none other than Teddy Morse, the new owner of the Teddy Morse’s Harley-Davidson. He hands it to Bear and sez that it is a gift to him.

Later that afternoon Bear, Edge, and Marilyn Stemp meet up with Teddy at the dealership so Bear could get his board signed next to Mari Geolfos signature. Some guys are lucky!
