The Daytona Flying Piston Benefit-Charity Builders Breakfast
During Daytona Bike Week 2022, Ryan Moore, P.E. teacher at Ormond Beach Elementary School in Ormond Beach, FL, brought his fellow teachers to the second annual Flying Piston Benefit Builders Breakfast at Bruce Rossmeyer’s Daytona Harley-Davidson® dealership.
They were there to volunteer at the Breakfast which raised funds to cover the school’s balance bike curriculum through All Kids Bike, a program of the Strider Education Foundation. The Flying Piston Benefit is on a mission to teach every kid to ride a bike as part of kindergarten P.E. class.
Ormond Beach Elementary is an exemplary school where 62% of students scored at or above the proficient level for math, and 67% scored at or above that level for reading. Adding a bike-riding program to the school curriculum enhances these academics resulting in reading, riding, and arithmetic.
“By teaching kids to ride as part of the school day, we are getting as many kids on bikes as possible, as early as possible,” explained Marilyn Stemp, Flying Piston Benefit Co-founder. “Just this year, the Flying Piston Benefit has helped put over 70,000 kindergartners on two wheels in more than 500 schools nationwide.”
