Steve Reed’s Custom Strider – A One-of-a-Kind Ride for the 2025 Daytona Flying Piston Benefit

Steve Reed took the Strider Balance Bike and gave it a radical twist—literally. His build presented at the 2025 Flying Piston Benefit Breakfast is a fully custom, single-sided masterpiece that pushes the limits of design and function. Come see it at the breakfast and auction on Monday, March 3, 2025 located at the pavillion in the Teddy Morse’s Daytona Harley-Davidson® facility.

From the front fork to the swingarm, everything on this Strider is single-sided and fully operational. While a stock Strider has a fixed rear end, Steve wasn’t having that. Using CAD design, 3D printing, and CNC machining, he created a billet aluminum swingarm and even added a rear shock for a smooth ride.

To match the innovative frame, Steve designed custom single-sided billet aluminum forks and new rims with hubs built to fit this unique setup. After sandblasting, the frame was powder-coated white and finished with a striking Hydro Dipped pattern for a look that stands out from the crowd.

But he didn’t stop there—Steve teamed up with Curt Greene of Bare Bones Leather for a hand-tooled custom seat, adding a badass finishing touch.

A passionate builder who does it for the love of the craft, Steve has been a longtime supporter of the Flying Piston Benefit and the Builder Breakfast at the Buffalo Chip. He’s proud to contribute to the cause, helping to inspire the next generation of riders through AllKidsBike.org.

When it comes to two wheels and a wrench, Steve Reed’s been in the game since day one. So when All Kids Bike asked him to roll up and serve as an Ambassador, it wasn’t just an honor—it was a no-brainer.

Steve’s love affair with motorcycles kicked off early, tearing up dirt tracks as a kid before diving headfirst into chopper culture. In ‘76, he and his old man built his first old-school chopper, and just like that, Reed’s Customs Bike Shop was born in Flora, Indiana. Even while earning his Mechanical Engineering degree at Purdue and logging 25 years at Procter & Gamble, Steve never strayed from the garage. He kept the rubber burning—building customs, road-tripping for weeks on end, and rallying riders for epic charity runs.

By 2012, he doubled down on his passion, launching Steve’s Garage in Wilder, Kentucky. Now semi-retired (whatever that means in biker terms), Steve still wrenches on a handful of customs each year but puts even more muscle behind the causes that matter—All Kids Bike, Cops and Kids Christmas, Flying Pistons, Motorcycle Missions, and Bikers Against Bullies.

Back in 2019, Steve was stoked to be invited as a custom builder for the Strider Custom Bike Build, helping to inspire the next wave of riders. And he’s not slowing down anytime soon. Because for Steve, it’s not just about building badass bikes—it’s about keeping the spirit of two wheels alive for generations to come.
